Threat Research Engineer
We are seeking a Threat Research Engineer to investigate emerging cyber threats, develop actionable intelligence, and strengthen defensive capabilities across a complex technology environment. You will analyse malware, attacker behaviour, vulnerabilities, and intrusion techniques to identify risks and provide clear recommendations to security engineering and incident response teams. The role combines hands-on technical research with strong written communication, requiring you to turn complex findings into practical guidance for a range of technical and non-technical audiences.
Your responsibilities will include tracking threat actors, campaigns, and relevant developments across open-source and proprietary intelligence; collecting, validating, and correlating data from logs, malware samples, network activity, and external research; and conducting reverse engineering or technical analysis of suspicious files, scripts, and infrastructure. You will create and maintain indicators of compromise, detection logic, investigative playbooks, and intelligence reports. You will also collaborate with security operations, vulnerability management, product security, and engineering teams to improve detection coverage, prioritise defensive initiatives, and support investigations into active or suspected incidents. Where appropriate, you may contribute to automation, tooling, and research projects that improve the speed and quality of threat analysis.
Applicants should have experience in threat intelligence, security research, incident response, malware analysis, or a closely related discipline. Strong knowledge of common attack frameworks, network and endpoint security concepts, and attacker tactics, techniques, and procedures is required. Practical experience with scripting or programming languages such as Python, PowerShell, or Go, along with familiarity with tools for reverse engineering, digital forensics, packet analysis, and security monitoring, is highly desirable. You should be comfortable working with incomplete information, independently pursuing research questions, and presenting evidence-based conclusions. Curiosity, sound judgement, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively are essential. Relevant certifications or a degree in cybersecurity, computer science, or a related field are welcome but not mandatory where equivalent professional experience can be demonstrated.
